John Scanlon, violin and viola

John Scanlon

Violinist and violist John Scanlon is a native of Boston, MA but has spent most of his professional life on the West Coast. His teachers included Donald Mc Innes, Heiichiro Ohyama, Robert Vernon and Yehudi Menuhin, and he is a graduate of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and the University of California at Santa Barbara. John spent many years as Assistant Principal Viola of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and was a frequent sub with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras. As a freelancer in L.A. John played for over 400 motion pictures and countless television programs, commercials and pop albums. He also taught viola and was Director of Instrumental Chamber Music at the University of California at Irvine. John is Founder and Artistic Director of the Camerata Northwest and teaches privately in Tacoma.
